How to Ensure the Most Accurate Translations for Specific Words

The Free Translate & AI Content module for PrestaShop offers powerful features that allow you to set fixed translations for specific words and phrases and create exceptions for certain terms to remain untranslated. This guide provides a comprehensive approach to managing these options.

Fixed translations for specific words

This option allows you to add fixed translations for specific words and phrases across different languages. When translating, the module will use the fixed translations you have set.

Setting fixed translations ensures that certain words and phrases are always translated consistently. This is particularly useful for maintaining accuracy and consistency in your store's content.

Steps to set fixed translations:

  • Open the module configuration page.
  • Go to the "Exceptions" tab.
  • Enable the option "Fixed translation for some special words".
  • Click "Add" to create a new fixed translation.
  • In the "Phrase key" column, enter the word or phrase in the source language.
  • In the "Translate into" column, select the target language from the dropdown menu and enter the fixed translation for that language.
  • Save your settings.

Note: The option to translate with fixed meaning only applies if the phrase to be translated stands alone.

Exceptions for Translation APIs

This option allows you to create exceptions for translation APIs, ensuring certain words or phrases remain untranslated. This is especially useful for brand names, technical terms, and other critical content.

To add translation exceptions, follow these steps:

  • Access the module configuration in your PrestaShop admin panel.
  • Navigate to the "Exceptions" tab.
  • Find the "Excluded Words (or Phrases)" field: Locate the field for excluded words or phrases.
  • Enter the words or phrases: Input the words or phrases that you want to keep untranslated.
  • Save your settings: Click "Save" to apply the changes.

Note: The option to create exceptions does not support Lecto, Libre, and Yandex Translate.

By utilizing fixed translations and translation exceptions, you can ensure that your store's content remains accurate and consistent across different languages. These features help maintain the integrity of brand names, technical terms, and other important content, providing a seamless and professional experience for your users.
