Frequently Asked Questions About Super Speed

Choosing a speed optimization module raises a lot of questions — and using one to its full potential raises even more. This FAQ gathers the questions PrestaShop merchants ask most often about Super Speed, both before buying and while using it, with straightforward answers compiled from real customer conversations. Whether you're still comparing options or already fine-tuning your store's performance, you'll find what you need here.

Group 1: Compatibility

Q: Is Super Speed compatible with PrestaShop 9.1.x / 9.2?

A: Super Speed is compatible with PrestaShop 1.6.0.6 – 9.x. In the module code, the maximum version follows the current PrestaShop version, so the module is designed to run on the latest PS releases. For each new major PS release (e.g. 9.2), we recommend confirming with our team that it has been thoroughly tested.

Q: Is the module compatible with PHP 8.3 / 8.4?

A: PHP compatibility follows the PrestaShop version you are running — Super Speed does not declare its own PHP limits in the code. If your shop runs stably on PHP 8.3/8.4, Super Speed is compatible.

Q: Is Super Speed compatible with a custom theme / Warehouse / Hummingbird / LeoTheme?

A: Yes, in principle. Super Speed works at the system level (caching, image optimization, minification) rather than touching your theme's templates. The only caveat: HTML minification can occasionally break themes with non-standard code — if you see display issues, simply disable HTML minify or add an exception for that block.

Q: Is Super Speed compatible with Creative Elements (page builder)?

A: Yes. Super Speed detects Creative Elements and handles its blocks as dynamic hooks, so CE-built pages can be cached without breaking the layout. For other page builders, our support team can help you configure it.

Q: Does Super Speed conflict with other modules? Which files does it override?

A: Super Speed installs a focused set of overrides: Dispatcher.php (cache serving), Hook.php, FrontController.php, Link.php, Media.php, plus asset-related CccReducer.php, JavascriptManager.php and StylesheetManager.php. It checks for override conflicts during installation and can resolve known conflicts (for example, with Multilang Images on Link::getImageLink). Important: It cannot be installed together with the Page Cache module (ets_pagecache) or Total Image Optimization PRO (ets_imagecompressor) — the installer blocks this.

Q: Does Super Speed support Multistore?

A: Yes. Cache is stored separately per shop, and the back-office screens are shop-aware.

Q: Does Super Speed support multiple languages / currencies / customer groups?

A: Yes. The cache key includes language, currency, customer group, country and cart state — each variant gets its own cache file, so prices and content are never mixed between groups (e.g. B2B prices will never show to retail customers).

Q: What is the difference between Super Speed and Page Cache Pro? Which should I choose?

A: Both Super Speed and Page Cache Pro cover page cache, database optimization, server settings and minification. The only difference is image optimization: Super Speed includes image compression and WebP conversion, while Page Cache Pro does not. Choose Super Speed if you want image optimization bundled in; choose Page Cache Pro if you already handle image optimization separately.

Group 2: Features

Q: How does page cache work in Super Speed? Does it cache checkout / cart pages?

A: Page cache stores a static HTML snapshot of a page and serves it instantly on repeat visits without re-running PHP/SQL — dramatically reducing server response time. By default, checkout, cart and search pages are NOT cached, to guarantee the accuracy of orders and payments.

Q: How does Super Speed handle logged-in customers or carts with items? Is personal data ever leaked?

A: Never. Logged-in customers and guests are served completely separate cache files. Dynamic blocks such as the cart, account name and group-specific prices can be reloaded via AJAX after the cached page shell displays — fast and accurate.

Q: Does Super Speed compress images and convert to WebP? Which images?

A: Yes. Super Speed optimizes product, category, manufacturer, slider, banner and blog images with 4 methods: PHP (default, runs on your server), reSmush, TinyPNG (requires an API key — free tier 500 images/month) and WebP conversion. Note: WebP applies to product images only, for reliability; newly uploaded images are auto-optimized too.

Q: Does Super Speed support lazy loading?

A: Yes, but it is disabled by default after installation — enable it under Image optimization > Lazyload when needed (useful for category pages with many images).

Q: Is database cleanup in Super Speed safe? Will I lose sales data?

A: Safe for business data: Super Speed only cleans statistics/log tables (connection history, page views, expired cart rules, abandoned carts older than 3 days with no order, guest rows) — it never touches orders, products or customers. However, cleanup is irreversible, so export a backup (CSV/Excel) first — the module has a built-in export button.

Q: Will Super Speed improve my PageSpeed Insights / GTmetrix scores?

A: Usually yes, but the improvement depends on factors beyond the module's control, such as server quality, theme code and third-party scripts. Super Speed focuses on real loading speed your customers feel, not on guaranteeing a specific score.

Q: Is installing and configuring Super Speed complicated? I'm not technical.

A: Not at all. Super Speed has Auto Configuration in the Dashboard — one click applies all recommended optimizations (page cache, Smarty cache, minification, browser cache, lazy load...). For shops with special setups, our support team will help you fine-tune.

Q: Does Super Speed work with Cloudflare?

A: No. Super Speed integrates with Cloudflare: when you clear cache in the module, it can simultaneously purge your Cloudflare cache (enter your Zone ID and API Token once in the settings).

Group 3: Demo / Trial

Q: Is there a demo version I can try before buying?

A: Yes. You can try Super Speed here: https://demo2.presta-demos.com/superspeed/landing/prestahero_landing.html

On the Back Office demo, you can browse the module’s features, but you cannot change the demo shop’s configuration.

Q: Can I test it on a staging/test environment before buying?

A: We do not currently provide a staging or test environment for you to try the module before purchase. Please use the official demo above instead.

Group 4: Pricing / License

Q: How much does Super Speed cost? How many websites per license?

A: The price on prestahero.com is €139.99. One license covers 1 website/project; additional licenses are required for more sites.

Q: Are there discount codes / promotions?

A: Promotions run from time to time; we will confirm the current Super Speed promotion policy so the team answers consistently.

Q: What is the difference between buying on prestahero.com vs the Addons marketplace?

A: Both platforms offer the same Super Speed module with identical features. The main differences are in updates, support, and purchase policies.

  • When you buy directly from PrestaHero.com, you receive free lifetime updates and 1 year of technical support. Updates are managed through PrestaHero Connect.
  • On PrestaShop Addons Marketplace, updates and support are included for the first 12 months through Business Care. You need to renew Business Care to continue receiving them.

Payment methods and refund policies also depend on the platform where you purchase.

Q: Can I transfer the license to another domain?

A: Yes. PrestaHero supports license transfers when you need to change your store's domain. Simply contact our support team and provide your new domain. Our team will assist you with updating the domain associated with your license.

Group 5: Refund / After-sales support

Q: What is the refund policy?

A: PrestaHero offers a 15-day refund policy for products with technical issues that our support team cannot resolve. Refunds are subject to our policy conditions. For full details, please see our Refund Policy.

Q: What does after-sales support include? Do you help with installation?

A: Yes! Every Super Speed purchase from PrestaHero includes 1 year of free technical support, covering installation assistance, configuration guidance, troubleshooting, bug fixes, and compatibility issues with other modules or themes.

Q: What happens after the 1-year free support expires? Can I keep using the module?

A: Yes! You can continue using Super Speed normally and receive free lifetime updates even after your 1-year support period expires. However, technical support will no longer be available unless you renew it.

To renew your support, log in to your PrestaHero account, go to My Account > Downloads and Licenses, find your Super Speed license, and click Renew. Renewal fees vary depending on when you renew. Renewing before your support expires is more affordable than renewing after expiration.

Q: What if Super Speed doesn't deliver the results I expected?

A: Super Speed improves real loading speed but does not guarantee specific scores (see ‘Will Super Speed improve my PageSpeed Insights / GTmetrix scores?’). If you hit a technical issue, our team will work with you until it is resolved; if you are still not satisfied, our refund policy applies.

Group 6: Comparison / Real-world effectiveness

Q: I've tried several speed modules with no results — what's different about Super Speed?

A: The biggest difference: Super Speed is all-in-one (cache + images + database + minification + GZIP in a single module) instead of patching together multiple modules that can conflict with each other. It also includes System Analytics, which pinpoints exactly which hook or module is slowing your shop — if the root cause is a weak server, heavy theme or third-party script, no module can fix that, and this tool shows it instead of leaving you guessing.

Q: Can Super Speed break my theme layout or cause JavaScript errors?

A: In most cases, no. The main risk is HTML minification with non-standard theme code — if you see display issues, just disable HTML minify or add an exception for that block. Best practice: back up first, enable features one by one, and check your front office after each step.

Q: Do I still need Redis / Varnish if I use Super Speed?

A: Super Speed does not replace Redis/Memcached (a different object-cache layer; PrestaHero sells a separate Redis Cache module). If your shop already runs Varnish + Redis + CDN with its own technical team, Super Speed's page cache may overlap or conflict — evaluate your architecture with your technical team before enabling it.

Q: My server runs Nginx (not Apache) — will Super Speed work?

A: Browser cache and GZIP rules are written to .htaccess (Apache standard) — on Nginx you will need to configure the equivalent manually. All other features (page cache, image optimization, minification, database cleanup) work normally regardless of web server.
