Frequently Asked Questions About Cross Selling Pro

Suggesting the right products at the right moment lifts average order value — but merchants want to know exactly how it works first. This FAQ gathers what PrestaShop merchants ask most about Cross Selling Pro, with clear answers drawn from real customer conversations.

Group 1: What the module does and how products are selected

Q: What does Cross Selling Pro do?

A: Cross Selling Pro (technical name ets_crosssell) displays automated product recommendation blocks — upsell and cross-sell suggestions — at various places in your PrestaShop store: product pages, the shopping cart page, the "added to cart" popup, the homepage, category pages and other positions. Each display position has its own settings, so you can show different suggestion types in different places.

Q: How are the suggested products selected — by AI, by customer behavior, or by manual rules?

A: By catalog-data rules, not by AI. The module generates suggestions automatically from preconfigured rules based on your catalog data: frequently bought together, same category or brand, popular products, trending products, new products and similar criteria. You do not need to link products manually for the automatic blocks — the module applies the configured rules to each page. (There is no real-time AI or per-visitor behavioral personalization.)

Q: What types of product suggestions does the module offer?

A: The module supports multiple suggestion types, including: Trending products, Best-selling products, Most viewed products, You might also like, New products, Products in the same category, Products in the same brand, Featured products, Special products and Top-rated products. Each type uses its own selection logic — for example, Trending products shows the products purchased most often during a configurable period, while Top-rated products shows the highest average customer ratings.

Q: Can I choose specific products to recommend on a specific product page?

A: Yes. The "You might also like" feature lets you manually select related products per product. Edit the product in the back office, open its product tab and select Related products. Those products will then be suggested on that product's page (and can also appear in the cart), alongside or instead of the automatic suggestion blocks.

Q: Can the cart page show the related products of the products already in the cart?

A: Yes. The "You might also like" block can be enabled on the shopping cart page, and it shows products related to the products the customer is viewing or has already added to the cart — based on the related products you selected per product in the back office, or on cart data depending on the block configuration.

Q: I enabled "You might also like" but the section is empty — how do I set it up?

A: Two things must be in place: (1) for each product, select its related products in the back-office product tab (Related products), and (2) enable the "You might also like" block for that display position in the module settings. If either step is missing, the section shows nothing.

Group 2: Display positions and appearance

Q: On which pages can I display the suggestion blocks?

A: Product pages, the shopping cart page, the "added to cart" confirmation popup, the homepage, category pages and other positions. Each position is configured separately in the module settings, so you can assign different suggestion types to different pages (for example, best sellers on the homepage and "You might also like" on product pages).

Q: How do I display the module inside a page built with Creative Elements?

A: In Creative Elements, add the "Module" widget, choose the Crosssell module and set the hook to displayhome for the homepage. The module can also be inserted into template pages via the widget modules, with per-position settings for homepage, category page, product page and cart.

Q: Can I stop products from certain categories from ever being suggested?

A: Yes. In the module settings you select which categories are used for product suggestions — only products belonging to the selected categories will be displayed. Products outside those categories simply never appear in the suggestion blocks.

Q: Can I change the text color or styling of the suggestion blocks?

A: There is no front-office color picker in the module settings. Styling is done through the module's CSS file (views/css/front.css in the active theme's module folder); our support team adjusted it directly for a customer on request. Contact support if you need styling changes.

Q: Can customers add a product to the cart directly from the suggestion carousel?

A: It depends on your theme. If your theme supports adding products to the cart from product lists or carousels, that capability can be integrated into the module's carousel. If your theme does not support it, the customization has to be developed in the theme first (by your theme developer) before it can work with Cross Selling Pro.

Group 3: Discounts and promotions

Q: Can I offer a special discount that only applies to cross-sell suggestions?

A: No. The module displays recommended products at their current catalog price and does not include a built-in option to define a discount that applies only when a product is bought through cross-selling (for example, "buy product A, get 10% off product B only in this context"). As a workaround, use a native PrestaShop cart rule — e.g. set product A as the condition and apply a reduction to product B — so the discount is applied in the cart while Cross Selling Pro handles the display.

Q: Can I assign a discount to promoted products shown in the cart?

A: Not inside the module. The workaround the team recommends is to combine the module with native PrestaShop discount tools: (1) apply a catalog price rule or specific price to the promoted products so the reduced price is visible in the promo block, or (2) create a PrestaShop cart rule with the discount restricted to the promoted product IDs. Cross Selling Pro displays the products; PrestaShop handles the discount logic.

Q: Can the module create cart rules or discount vouchers itself?

A: No. Cross Selling Pro does not generate cart rules or vouchers from its own settings. It only selects and displays the recommended or promoted products; all discount logic must be set up with PrestaShop's native discount features.

Q: Can I sell a product ONLY as a cross-sell add-on (hidden from the catalog)?

A: No. Products suggested through the module cannot be completely hidden from the catalog for individual sale, and conditional logic such as "only show this product when a specific product or brand is in the cart" is not currently supported.

Group 4: Sorting, variety and cache

Q: Is there a "Random products" sorting option?

A: No. As confirmed by our team in October 2026 after checking the module code (versions 2.4.6 and 3.0.x), there is currently no Random sorting option in the back office. Available sort options for eligible blocks are: Popularity, Product name (A–Z / Z–A), Price (lowest first / highest first) and Newest products first. The product page mention of "random products" does not match the configuration UI and is being corrected. True random selection has been logged as a product improvement with no committed timeline.

Q: What is the "Popularity" sorting option based on?

A: "Popularity" sorts by the product's position in its category (the category_product.position value), not by sales volume, number of orders or page views.

Q: Why do the blocks show the same products on every page?

A: This is expected behavior with the current logic. Trending products is a shop-wide list (most purchased in the configured period), Top-rated products is a shop-wide list (highest average rating), and same-category blocks default to category position — none of them are personalized per product page, visitor or device. To diversify, assign different suggestion types to different positions according to their purpose (e.g. best sellers on the homepage, "You might also like" or same-category products on product pages), try different trending periods, and use the available sort options. Note there is currently no option to automatically exclude products that already appear in another block.

Q: How do Trending products work — can I change the time period?

A: Trending products shows the products purchased most often during a configurable period (for example, the last 7 or 30 days). You define this period in the block settings. The list only changes when sales change — it does not rotate or randomize products on its own.

Q: What is Smart Cache, and can it keep showing the same products?

A: Cross Selling Pro has its own Smart Cache with a configurable cache lifetime, which stores the generated suggestion lists so they don't have to be regenerated on every request. It is not the main reason Trending or Top-rated blocks repeat the same products — those lists are inherently stable until sales or ratings change. You can clear the cache or temporarily disable Smart Cache to test configuration changes.

Group 5: Compatibility and performance

Q: Is Cross Selling Pro compatible with PrestaShop 9?

A: Yes. Our team confirmed PrestaShop 9 compatibility, and customers are running the module on PrestaShop 9.1 and 9.2. After migrating from PrestaShop 1.7 to 9, install the latest module version that supports PrestaShop 9, clear the back-office cache, recheck the module configuration (some settings may need adjustment after migration) and test key functions on both the front office and back office.

Q: Which PrestaShop and PHP versions are supported?

A: The module is stated as compatible with PrestaShop 1.6.x through 9.x. Customers are using it on PrestaShop 9.1 with PHP 8.4 and on PrestaShop 9.2 without version-specific issues reported to us.

Q: Will the module slow down my store?

A: The module performs extra processing to select products for each suggestion block, so page generation takes longer than with the module disabled; our team states these operations have been optimized. That said, some store owners — particularly with very large catalogs and heavy cart traffic — have reported significant slowdowns and server load, in some cases leading them to disable the module. If you run a very large catalog, contact our team before purchasing so we can assess your setup.

Q: Does the module work with external page-cache modules?

A: It can, but cache interactions may affect the display — for example, one customer using JPresta Page Cache Ultimate saw the cart suggestion block briefly show "No products available" before rendering. If you use a third-party page cache, check its settings for cart pages and dynamic content, and contact our team if suggestion blocks behave unexpectedly.

Q: Will the module work with my custom theme?

A: Generally yes, but display issues can occur with heavily customized themes — reported cases include the "added to cart" popup rendering incorrectly on mobile, suggestion blocks conflicting with theme cart widgets, and missing add-to-cart buttons in the carousel. Our team investigates theme conflicts case by case; providing staging access helps resolve them faster.

Group 6: Limitations

Q: Can I set related products at the combination/variant level — for example, suggest only the black color of a T-shirt?

A: No. Related products are selected at the product level, not at the combination level. The whole product is suggested, and the customer then chooses the desired size, color or other combination on the product page.

Q: Can recommendations be based on custom product features, such as scale or vehicle brand?

A: No. The module supports recommendations based on category, brand (manufacturer) and similar built-in criteria, but it does not support filtering or recommending based on custom product features or attributes (for example, scale 1:18 vs 1:12, or a custom "vehicle brand" feature).

Q: Can the module create product bundles or different fixed product sets?

A: No. Cross Selling Pro is not a bundle module — it displays automated suggestion blocks based on catalog data and customer interest, not fixed product sets or bundles. For different suggestions per product, use the "You might also like" feature with manually selected related products per product.

Q: Does the module include a statistics dashboard?

A: No. The module's main function is displaying product recommendations; it does not include a dashboard for viewing detailed statistics about the suggestions.

Group 7: Purchase, trial and support

Q: Can I try Cross Selling Pro before buying?

A: As Cross Selling Pro is a downloadable digital product, we do not offer a free trial. However, you can explore our Front Office and Back Office demos, which showcase the module's features, cross-selling rules and display options, and configuration options, helping you evaluate whether it meets your needs before purchasing.

If you have any questions about compatibility or specific features, our support team is happy to assist. After purchase, we'll also help with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting to ensure a smooth experience.

Q: What is the price, and are discount codes available?

A: Cross Selling PRO is currently listed at €139.99 on PrestaHero.com. We occasionally offer seasonal promotions and discount codes. Please check our website or contact our support team for the latest offers.

Q: What is the difference between buying on Addons and buying on prestahero.com?

A: Both platforms offer the same module, but their purchase policies differ. Buying directly from PrestaHero.com includes free lifetime updates, one year of technical support, and access to updates through PrestaHero Connect. On PrestaShop Addons, updates and support are managed through the annual Business Care subscription.

Q: Can I get a refund or swap the module if it does not fit my project?

A: Our priority is to help you get the most out of our module. If you encounter technical issues, our support team will investigate and help resolve them, including checking directly on your website when necessary.

If the issue is caused by our module and our developers cannot fix it after troubleshooting, you are eligible for a refund within 15 days of purchase, in accordance with our refund policy.

As our products are downloadable digital software, refunds for a change of mind or features outside the module's advertised scope are not covered. However, we're happy to discuss alternative solutions, such as exchanging the module or offering store credit, depending on your situation.

Q: Can I request custom development for the module?

A: Yes! Please send us your detailed requirements. Our technical team will review their feasibility and provide a quote if the customization is possible. Custom development is evaluated case by case and may involve additional costs.
