How to Configure Sitemaps with Awesome URL

What is a Sitemap?

A sitemap is a file that lists all the pages of your website, providing information about the structure and organization of your content. It helps search engines like Google to crawl your site more efficiently and index your pages accurately. By having a well-configured sitemap, you can improve your site's visibility and ensure that all your important pages are discovered by search engines.

Configuring your sitemap

The Awesome URL module allows you to easily create and configure a sitemap for your website, enhancing your SEO efforts.

Step 3: Turn on the “Enable sitemaps” option.

Step 4: Adjust the settings for your sitemap, including:

How to automatically submit sitemaps to Google using Cronjob?

To automate the process of submitting your sitemap to Google Search Console, you need to set up a cronjob on your server. This ensures that your sitemap is regularly updated and submitted without manual intervention.

Steps to set up a Cronjob:

Step 1: Set up a Cronjob on your server

  • The method for setting up a cronjob varies depending on your server environment.
  • You can also contact your hosting provider for support.

Step 2: Navigate to the sitemap page

On the Sitemap page, scroll down to find the "Automatically submit sitemaps to the Google Search Console (Cronjob)" section.

Step 3: Copy the command provided

The module will provide a command that you need to copy.

Step 4: Install the Cronjob

Use the copied command to install the cronjob on your server. This will automate the submission process.

If you are unsure how to set up a cronjob for your PrestaShop site, refer to our guide "How to set up Cronjob for your site". You can also execute the cronjob manually by clicking the "Execute Cronjob manually" button.

Note: The cronjob frequency should be at least twice per month, with the recommended frequency being once per week.
