Frequently Asked Questions About Marketplace Builder

Turning a store into a marketplace opens new revenue — and a new set of questions. This FAQ brings together what PrestaShop merchants ask most about Marketplace Builder, from onboarding sellers to managing commissions, with straightforward answers compiled from real customer conversations.

Group 1: Compatibility

Q: Is Marketplace Builder compatible with PrestaShop 9?

A: Yes. Our team has confirmed the module is tested with PrestaShop 9.0.x, and merchants are running it on PrestaShop 8.x as well as 9.1. If you run a newer PrestaShop release, ask our team to confirm it has been tested on your exact version before purchasing.

Q: What are the technical requirements (PrestaShop and PHP versions)?

A: Marketplace Builder supports PrestaShop 1.6.0.6 through 9.x. Your server should use a PHP version compatible with your PrestaShop installation. No separate PHP version range is officially specified for the module.

Q: Will Marketplace Builder work with my payment module (e.g., PayPal, Stripe, BTCPay Server)?

A: Yes, with a caveat. Marketplace Builder does not process payments itself — checkout uses your store's existing payment methods, so any payment module that works with your PrestaShop checkout works with the marketplace. Standard setups (PayPal, Stripe, bank wire, cash on delivery) are used by merchants. Specialized setups such as a Bitcoin-only checkout via BTCPay Server have not been explicitly tested by our team; for those, we recommend testing on a staging environment first.

Q: Does Marketplace Builder integrate with Mangopay for split payments and KYC?

A: No. The module has no native Mangopay integration for splitting payments, withholding commission, or paying out sellers after KYC verification. Seller payouts are handled through the module's own withdrawal system (see Group 4).

Q: Does it work with pickup-point shipping modules like Mondial Relay or Colissimo?

A: Yes — including for carts containing products from multiple sellers.

Q: Can I run Marketplace Builder together with the Wholesale B2B module?

A: Yes, both modules can be installed on the same PrestaShop site, but their features do not integrate — each module operates independently (Wholesale B2B handles wholesale pricing and private shop access; Marketplace Builder handles the vendors).

Q: Can Marketplace Builder connect my shop to an external marketplace like Doc Morris?

A: No. The module builds and manages a multi-vendor marketplace on your own PrestaShop website; it does not integrate with or sync to external marketplaces.

Group 2: How the marketplace works

Q: Can I keep my normal store and add a marketplace section without enabling multishop?

A: Yes. The marketplace runs on your single shop — no multishop setup is needed. You can add a banner, tab, or menu link on your homepage that takes customers to the marketplace section.

Q: Can customers buy products from several sellers in one checkout?

A: Yes. Customers add products from multiple sellers into a single cart and pay once through a unified checkout. In the back office, the order is automatically split into sub-orders — one per seller — sharing the same order reference but with different order IDs, so each seller only sees and manages their own part.

Q: Who collects the customer's payment — the marketplace or each seller?

A: The marketplace owner collects the full payment through the store's own payment methods at checkout. Each seller's share accumulates as a balance (minus your commission), and sellers request payouts through withdrawal requests that the admin approves.

Q: Can several sellers sell the same product on one product page, like on Amazon?

A: No. Each product belongs to exactly one seller — a seller creates their own product listing with their own price. There is no shared offer list where multiple sellers compete on the same product page.

Q: Does Marketplace Builder work for PrestaShop multi-shop setups?

A: No. The module is designed for a multi-vendor marketplace on a single shop; it is not intended for multi-shop configurations.

Group 3: Seller registration and accounts

Q: Do sellers need a customer account before they can become sellers?

A: Yes. Seller accounts are built on top of standard PrestaShop customer accounts — a visitor must first create a regular customer account, then submit a seller registration request, which the admin approves.

Q: Is there a direct public link to the seller registration form that I can share with visitors?

A: No. The seller area requires going through the customer-account flow first, so there is no standalone public registration URL for visitors without an account. The recommended approach is to place the "My seller account" link in a visible spot (footer, homepage) — it redirects each visitor according to their status.

Q: How does the "My seller account" link behave for different visitors?

A: It adapts automatically: visitors without an account are sent to the login/account-creation page; logged-in customers who are not sellers yet reach the seller registration request page; approved sellers land on their seller dashboard.

Q: Can the admin create seller accounts directly in the back office?

A: No. Sellers must register through the front office. The admin can then approve their applications and manage their shops from the back office.

Group 4: Commissions, withdrawals and invoices

Q: How are commissions calculated? Can I set the commission to 0%?

A: Commissions are calculated from seller orders based on configurable rates and order statuses. You can set rates globally, per seller, seller group, or product category under Settings > Commissions. The rate represents the seller's share: setting it to 100% means the marketplace takes no commission. A 0% seller commission rate is not supported.

Q: How do sellers receive their earnings? Which payout methods are available?

A: Sellers accumulate a balance and submit withdrawal requests, which the admin approves or declines. Built-in withdrawal methods include PayPal, bank wire, and Skrill, and you can also create fully custom, manually-processed methods (for example, a "Bitcoin / Lightning payout" if you settle balances in crypto yourself).

Q: If I decline a seller's withdrawal request, can it be approved later?

A: No. A declined withdrawal request cannot be changed back to approved — the seller must submit a new withdrawal request.

Q: Does each seller get their own invoice with their legal details, VAT number, and numbering?

A: No. The module generates one global customer invoice per order; it does not issue separate per-seller invoices with individual legal details, VAT numbers, or numbering. Seller-related invoice numbering follows your PrestaShop defaults — a separate sequential numbering (legally required in some countries, e.g., France) needs specific configuration or development.

Q: How are returns, cancellations, and partial refunds handled in multi-seller orders?

A: Manually. The module does not automatically recalculate or cancel commissions when items are returned, cancelled, or partially refunded — the marketplace operator handles these adjustments.

Group 5: Seller features

Q: What can sellers manage in their dashboard?

A: Sellers manage their own shop through a dedicated dashboard: their products, their orders (sub-orders), and their shipping options — each seller only sees data related to their own sales.

Q: Can sellers generate their own voucher codes?

A: Yes, if the admin enables the "Allow sellers to generate their voucher code" option. Vouchers created by a seller apply to that seller's own products.

Q: Can sellers import their product catalog? Are there limits?

A: Yes. Sellers can import products using CSV files, with a limit of 500 products per import. Supported fields include names, prices, images, quantities, descriptions, categories, combinations, and specific prices. XML imports and fields such as brand and weight are not supported by the built-in importer.

Q: How is shipping calculated when a cart contains products from multiple sellers?

A: At checkout, a detailed block shows each seller with their products and the corresponding shipping cost, so the customer sees exactly what applies per seller. Sellers manage their own shipping options within the marketplace setup.

Q: Can sellers see my customers' personal data (name, email, phone, addresses)?

A: By default, yes — sellers see order details including customer information in their front-office Orders section. There is no built-in setting to hide customer names, emails, phone numbers, or billing/shipping addresses from sellers (including in notifications and downloadable documents); anonymizing this requires a separate paid customization — contact our team for a quote.

Group 6: Memberships and subscriptions

Q: Can I charge sellers a registration fee, a monthly subscription, or both?

A: Yes. The module supports membership plans combining a one-time fee (set on the shop group) with a recurring subscription fee (membership) — both can be used at the same time.

Q: Does the module collect the membership/subscription payments itself?

A: No. The module generates membership invoices and displays the admin's payment instructions. Sellers pay using the specified method, and the admin confirms payment. Automatic subscription charging is not included.

Q: What happens when a seller's subscription expires?

A: The seller account is not deleted, but the shop status changes to Expired: the seller can no longer add or edit products, and on the front office both the seller's shop page and their products are hidden. The seller is notified by email (with reminders) and also sees a notification in their seller account.

Q: Is there a public page listing all membership plans for sellers to compare and buy?

A: No. The module supports different membership fees for seller groups, including one-time, monthly, quarterly, and yearly fees, but does not include a public page for comparing and purchasing plans.

Group 7: License, pricing and policies

Q: How much does Marketplace Builder cost?

A: Marketplace Builder is currently priced at €159.99 (excluding applicable taxes) on PrestaHero.com. Prices and promotions may change. Please check the PrestaShop Addons Marketplace separately for its current price.

Q: Can I use one license on two different stores?

A: No. Under the PrestaShop Addons licensing policy, one purchase covers one site/store. A second store needs an additional license to receive updates and support on that site.

Q: Can I install it on a staging/test site before going live?

A: Yes. One PrestaHero license covers one live website and one development/test website. Register your live domain when purchasing and contact support with both domains if you need assistance.

Q: Can I try Marketplace Builder before buying?

A: As Marketplace Builder is a downloadable digital product, we do not offer a free trial. However, you can explore our Front Office and Back Office demos, which showcase the module's features, seller dashboard and marketplace features, and configuration options, helping you evaluate whether it meets your needs before purchasing.

If you have any questions about compatibility or specific features, our support team is happy to assist. After purchase, we'll also help with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting to ensure a smooth experience.

Q: Can I get a refund or swap the module if it does not fit my project?

A: Our priority is to help you get the most out of our module. If you encounter technical issues, our support team will investigate and help resolve them, including checking directly on your website when necessary.

If the issue is caused by our module and our developers cannot fix it after troubleshooting, you are eligible for a refund within 15 days of purchase, in accordance with our refund policy.

As our products are downloadable digital software, refunds for a change of mind or features outside the module's advertised scope are not covered. However, we're happy to discuss alternative solutions, such as exchanging the module or offering store credit, depending on your situation.

Q: Do you help with installation?

A: Yes. You can install Marketplace Builder using PrestaHero Connect or manually. Our support team is available to guide you through installation and help resolve technical issues. The purchase includes one year of free technical support.
