Frequently Asked Questions About SOCIAL LOGIN

Letting customers log in with their social accounts removes friction at registration and checkout. This FAQ brings together what PrestaShop merchants ask most about SOCIAL LOGIN, with straightforward answers compiled from real customer conversations.

Group 1: Supported networks & compatibility

Q: Which social networks does Social Login support?

A: Social Login supports 30+ networks, including Google, Facebook, TikTok, X (Twitter), Amazon, Microsoft, LinkedIn and Pinterest. You can enable each network separately by configuring its API credentials.

Q: Is Apple login (Sign in with Apple) supported?

A: No, Sign in with Apple is not currently supported by our Social Login module.

Q: Does the module work with Facebook Login for Business?

A: Our module supports standard Facebook Login using an App ID, App Secret, and redirect URL. Facebook Login for Business has not been specifically verified. Please contact our support team with your Facebook app configuration, and we'll be happy to check compatibility.

Q: Which PrestaShop versions does Social Login support?

A: Social Login module is compatible with PrestaShop 1.6.x to 9.x.

Q: Does Social Login work with my theme, including page builders like Creative Elements?

A: Social Login works with standard PrestaShop login and registration pages and includes compatibility improvements for Creative Elements. Custom login popups may need additional adjustments. Please share your theme details with our support team so we can check your setup.

Q: Can I replace another social login module with Social Login?

A: Yes. Your existing PrestaShop customer accounts will remain, but social account connections from your previous module won't transfer automatically. Customers may need to reconnect their social accounts. We recommend backing up your store and disabling the old module to avoid conflicts.

Group 2: What you need to set up

Q: What do I need to configure for each social network?

A: For each network you enable, you must create an app with that provider (e.g. Google, Facebook) to obtain an Application ID and Application Secret, then enter those credentials in the module's configuration. Our team can help you create and configure these app credentials after purchase.

Q: Where do I find the setup documentation for creating the Facebook/Google app credentials?

A: The module ships with configuration documentation for each network. Providers change their app-creation steps over time — if the guide looks outdated (a customer reported this for Facebook and Google), contact our support team and they will send you updated configuration guides.

Q: Google asks me to add a page on my site for app validation. Is that normal?

A: Yes. Google may require app verification before login works in production, which can include adding a verification page to your site. Facebook apps likewise go through a review process before they can go live. Plan for this provider-side review time when scheduling your launch.

Q: My Facebook app was closed or is under review. What should I do?

A: App approval is handled by Facebook/Meta, not by the module. One customer's Facebook account was closed by Facebook for rule violations; they created a new account, completed the validation steps, and then login worked. Make sure your app complies with the provider's rules and completes their review process.

Q: Can your support team help me set up the app credentials?

A: Yes! Our support team can help you configure social login apps for Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and other supported providers. Since these apps must be managed through your own provider accounts, we may need your assistance with certain setup steps and the required credentials.

Group 3: How social login works for shoppers

Q: What happens when a customer logs in with a social account for the first time?

A: If the email address from the social account is not registered on your shop, the module automatically creates a new customer account and logs the customer in.

Q: What if the customer already has an account with the same email address?

A: Then social login is blocked with an error like "This email is already registered… Please log in to your account first, then link your social account." This is a deliberate security feature: to protect the account, the customer must first log in with their existing credentials and then connect the social network from their account page. The login only works directly the first time for new, unregistered emails.

Q: Can existing customers link their social account to their shop account?

A: Yes. Existing customers log in to the "My account" section with their current credentials and activate the option to connect their social account. After linking, they can log in with the social network going forward.

Q: How does a customer who registered via social login get a password?

A: After registering or logging in via a social network, a password is automatically sent to the email address associated with their social account. If the customer cannot find it, ask them to check the spam/junk folder — and make sure your shop's email sending (SMTP or default PrestaShop mail) is configured correctly, since a wrong SMTP setup will silently prevent delivery.

Q: Where do the social login buttons appear on my shop?

A: On your shop's login and registration pages. The module provides a setting to control where the buttons display on the registration page (top or bottom). Some customers also enable a login popup in the module settings.

Q: After logging in with a social network, where does the customer land?

A: Behavior depends on the context: at checkout, the goal is to keep the customer in the checkout flow, while a login from the account page redirects to the account area. If the landing page is not what you expect, contact support with a video of the flow and they will check it on your site.

Group 4: Translations & texts

Q: How do I change the module's texts into my language?

A: Translate them in the PrestaShop back office via International > Translations (select the Social Login module and the target language). After translating, clear the PrestaShop cache and your browser cache (or test in a private/incognito window) so the new texts appear. Translation issues reported in French, German, Italian and Dutch were resolved this way.

Group 5: Data & privacy

Q: Where is the social login data stored?

A: The module stores social user data (user IDs and tokens from the providers) in its own database table on your shop, separate from the standard customer table. Our team can tell you the exact table name for your version if you need to inspect it.

Q: How do I handle a Meta/Facebook data-deletion request for social login users?

A: The module does not process provider data-deletion requests automatically — you must handle them manually (e.g. locate and delete the user's social data in your database via phpMyAdmin). Contact our support team if you need help identifying the records.

Group 6: Troubleshooting

Q: Social login suddenly stopped working — what are the usual causes?

A: Common causes include changes to the social network's API, expired or invalid app credentials, app restrictions, or hosting security settings. Please check your social app configuration first. If the issue persists, contact our support team with the error details, and we'll help investigate.

Q: I get an error 500 or the Facebook login disappeared after updating the module. What should I do?

A: First, clear your PrestaShop cache and check that Facebook Login is still enabled and properly configured. If the problem continues, please contact our support team with the error details. Our technical team will investigate and help resolve the issue.

Q: The social login buttons do not show where I configured them, or login seems to complete but nothing happens. Is that a known issue?

A: This can happen due to configuration, theme compatibility, or caching issues. Please check your module settings and clear your PrestaShop and browser caches. If the issue persists, contact our support team with a screenshot or video showing the problem. We'll be happy to help.

Q: Can I get a refund or swap the module if it does not fit my project?

Q: How do I get my invoice after purchase?

Q: What is the difference between buying Social Login on PrestaHero.com vs the Addons marketplace?

A: Both platforms offer the same module and features, but their purchase terms differ.

Buying directly from PrestaHero.com includes free lifetime updates, 1 year of technical support, and updates through PrestaHero Connect. Purchases from PrestaShop Addons follow its Business Care subscription and refund policies. Prices may also differ.

Q: What happens after the 1-year support period expires?

A: You can continue using Social Login normally and receive free lifetime updates if you purchased directly from PrestaHero.com.

Basic usage assistance remains available, but technical support requires renewal. You can renew through My Account → Download & licenses. Renewal costs 40% of the product price before support expires or 70% afterward.
