Frequently Asked Questions About SEO Audit

SEO can feel overwhelming, and picking the right tool shouldn't add to the confusion. This FAQ collects the questions PrestaShop merchants ask most about SEO Audit — from pre-purchase research to day-to-day usage — answered plainly based on real customer conversations. Browse through whether you're evaluating the module or already putting it to work on your store.

Group 1: Compatibility

Q: Is SEO Audit compatible with PrestaShop 9?

A: Yes. SEO Audit is compatible with PrestaShop 1.7.4.0 through the latest PrestaShop version, so it runs on the latest releases, including PrestaShop 9. For each new major PrestaShop release, we recommend confirming with our team that it has been thoroughly tested.

Q: Which PHP versions does SEO Audit support?

A: SEO Audit follows the PHP versions supported by your PrestaShop version. It is compatible with PrestaShop 1.7.4.0 to 9.2.0, so overall it works across PHP 5.6 through PHP 8.5, depending on the shop.

Q: Does SEO Audit work with multistore and multilingual shops?

A: Yes. SEO Audit stores SEO data per shop and per language (products, categories, CMS pages and other entities each have per-shop/per-language SEO rows), and it generates sitemaps per language. Note that some global settings apply to all shops in a multi-store setup.

Q: Can I install SEO Audit together with Awesome URL, a dynamic sitemap module, or another pretty-URL module?

A: No. SEO Audit blocks installation when it detects conflicting URL/sitemap modules (ets_awesomeurl, etsdynamicsitemap, or the third-party "prettyurls" module) to prevent route conflicts. Use only one URL module at a time — SEO Audit already covers pretty URLs and sitemaps itself.

Q: Does SEO Audit work with my theme or page builder?

A: In most cases, yes. SEO Audit works through PrestaShop class overrides and the displayHeader hook rather than modifying your theme's templates. Note that some SEO header output is skipped on page-builder preview controllers (e.g. Creative Elements preview).

Group 2: SEO analysis & scores

Q: What does SEO Audit actually analyze on my pages?

A: SEO Audit runs Yoast-style rule checks: 23 SEO rule groups (keyphrase use in title/intro/subheadings, meta length, internal/outbound links, image ALT, text length, keyphrase density...) plus 8 readability rule groups (sentence length, paragraph length, passive voice, consecutive sentences, subheading distribution, transition words...). You set a focus keyphrase per page, and SEO Audit scores each dimension with Problems / Improvements / Good results, plus a search snippet preview.

Q: Do the SEO scores in SEO Audit affect my Google ranking?

A: No. The scores are internal diagnostic guidance based on on-page rules — they are not Google penalty indicators, and a good score does not guarantee any ranking position. Use SEO Audit scores to prioritize which pages need work, not as a ranking promise.

Q: Can SEO Audit fill in focus keyphrases automatically for all my products?

A: Focus keyphrases are entered per page in the back-office SEO panel, because each page should target its own search intent — SEO Audit does not auto-assign them in bulk. For large catalogs, the module's SEO import/export carries per-page SEO data (including keyphrases) between environments.

Q: Does SEO Audit check readability of my content?

A: Yes. SEO Audit includes 8 readability checks (sentence length, paragraph length, Flesch reading ease, passive voice, subheading distribution, transition words and more). Treat them as guidance for real customers, not strict rules — a technical specification naturally reads differently from a beginner's guide.

Group 3: URLs, redirects & canonical

Q: Can SEO Audit remove IDs from my product and category URLs?

A: Yes. SEO Audit can rewrite URLs without numeric IDs (e.g. /my-product instead of /3-my-product) through its Dispatcher override. This requires PrestaShop Friendly URL to be enabled. When you enable ID removal, also enable the automatic redirect of old ID-based URLs so existing links and indexed pages keep working.

Q: Will removing IDs from URLs break my old links or hurt my rankings?

A: Not if redirects are configured. SEO Audit can automatically 301-redirect old ID-based URLs to the new pretty URLs. That said, no module can guarantee ranking preservation after URL changes — monitor Google Search Console coverage after migrating.

Q: Can I create thousands of 301 redirects in bulk (e.g. after a migration)?

A: Redirect rules are managed under SEO URLs → URL redirects in the back office (301/302/303 per rule). SEO Audit's backup import/export also carries redirect rules, so a large redirect set can be prepared and imported via the module's XML import instead of adding rules one by one.

Q: Does SEO Audit handle canonical URLs?

A: Yes. SEO Audit generates canonical URLs automatically for products, categories, CMS pages, manufacturers, suppliers and meta pages, and you can override the canonical per page in its SEO panel. Review canonicals after any URL structure change — a wrong canonical can hide the wrong URL from search engines.

Q: How does the 404 Monitor in SEO Audit work?

A: When enabled, SEO Audit records front-office requests that hit missing pages and lists them with hit counts under SEO URLs → 404 Monitor. It helps you decide which broken URLs deserve a redirect rule. It is not a replacement for server access logs.

Group 4: Sitemap, robots.txt & technical SEO

Q: Does SEO Audit generate XML sitemaps automatically?

A: Yes. SEO Audit generates the XML sitemap dynamically on request (no static file to regenerate), paginated for large catalogs (250 products per sitemap page by default), covering products, categories, CMS pages, manufacturers, suppliers and more, with configurable priorities. You then submit the sitemap URL to Google Search Console manually.

Q: Do I need a cron job for the SEO Audit sitemap?

A: No. Sitemap generation is dynamic and needs no cron. A cronjob is only mentioned in the documentation as optional general hygiene for very large, frequently updated stores — it does not submit anything to Google automatically.

Q: Does SEO Audit submit my sitemap to Google Search Console for me?

A: No. Submission is manual: copy the sitemap URL from SEO Audit and add it in Google Search Console. The module's dashboard states this explicitly.

Q: Can I edit robots.txt with SEO Audit?

A: Yes — SEO Audit includes a robots.txt editor in the back office, and the dashboard SEO checklist verifies the file exists. Remember that robots.txt is only a crawl hint, not access control: a wrong Disallow rule can block your pages from indexing.

Group 5: Meta templates & images

Q: How do meta templates work in SEO Audit?

A: Under Meta templates, you define patterns per page type (product, category, CMS...) using placeholders such as %product-name%, %brand%, %category%, %price% and %separator%. SEO Audit applies them when rendering meta titles, meta descriptions and image ALT text — without rewriting your stored product data. Design patterns carefully: over-generic templates can produce hundreds of near-identical metas.

Q: Will SEO Audit meta templates overwrite my manually written meta titles?

A: Only if you enable the force-use option for that page type. Otherwise, your hand-written meta is kept, and SEO Audit templates fill in only the empty values.

Q: Does SEO Audit handle image ALT text in bulk?

A: Yes — image ALT templates apply patterned ALT text where the module controls image output. Coverage on fully custom theme templates may vary, so spot-check your most important pages.

Group 6: Structured data, ratings & social

Q: Does SEO Audit add structured data / schema markup to my pages?

A: Yes. SEO Audit outputs JSON-LD for WebSite (with SearchAction), Organization or Person, BreadcrumbList, Product and AggregateRating where enabled. Whether Google actually shows rich results is up to Google and is never guaranteed. If you run another schema module, disable the overlapping output on one side to avoid duplicate structured data.

Q: Can SEO Audit make star ratings appear in Google results?

A: SEO Audit can output AggregateRating schema for eligible pages, which makes them eligible for rating rich results — but Google decides when to display stars. Note: on product pages the module warns against enabling its own ratings if the native Customer comments (productcomments) module is installed, to avoid duplicate rating markup.

Q: Does SEO Audit manage Open Graph and social share previews?

A: Yes. You can set the social title, description and image per page (with defaults) for Facebook, X and Pinterest shares. Social networks cache preview data, so use their debugger tools to refresh previews after changes.

Group 7: ChatGPT / AI content

Q: Does SEO Audit use ChatGPT? Do I need my own OpenAI API key?

A: Yes. SEO Audit's AI content feature calls the OpenAI API, so you must supply your own OpenAI API key and pay OpenAI usage costs — without a key the feature stays inactive. It can draft product summaries, descriptions and meta fields, category descriptions and meta, and CMS content and meta from customizable prompt templates. Always review AI-generated text before publishing.

Q: Why is ChatGPT generation failing in SEO Audit with an API error?

A: The usual causes are a missing or invalid API key, no billing/credits on the OpenAI account, or a model name your key cannot access (the default model is gpt-4o). Check the key under SEO Audit → Settings → ChatGPT. Note the feature is automatically disabled if the Free Translate module's ChatGPT mode is enabled.

Group 8: Pricing, license, demo & support

Q: How much does SEO Audit cost?

A: SEO Audit was listed at €159.99 on prestahero.com.

Q: Is there a demo available for SEO Audit?

A: Yes! You can explore SEO Audit's features through our live demo. Please note that the Back Office demo is read-only. You can explore the module's settings and features, but you cannot edit, delete, or save any configuration changes.

Q: Can I use one SEO Audit license on a staging or test site?

A: Yes! Each SEO Audit license covers one live website (production) and one development or test website. When purchasing, please register your live domain. If you need technical support for your development site, simply provide both your live and development domains to our support team. If you want to use SEO Audit on multiple live websites, you'll need to purchase additional licenses.

Q: What is the refund policy for SEO Audit?

A: PrestaHero offers a 15-day refund policy for products with technical issues that our support team cannot resolve. Refunds are subject to our policy conditions. For full details, please see our Refund Policy.

Q: What happens after the 1-year support period expires? Can I keep using SEO Audit?

A: Yes! You can continue using SEO Audit normally and receive free lifetime updates even after your 1-year support period expires. However, technical assistance will require a support renewal.

To renew, log in to your PrestaHero account, go to My Account > Download & licenses, find your SEO Audit license, and click Renew.

Renewal fees depend on when you renew. Renewing before your support expires is more affordable than renewing after expiration.
