Frequently Asked Questions About 1 CLICK to Migrate

Moving a store to a newer PrestaShop version shouldn’t mean losing data or sleep. This FAQ collects what merchants ask most about 1 CLICK to Migrate, from preparation to post-migration checks, with honest answers based on real customer conversations.

Group 1: Choosing the right migration module

Q: What is the difference between 1-Click Migrate, MigrationPro Ultimate, PS Migrator and 1-Click Direct Upgrade?

A: All four belong to the PrestaHero migration family and share the same base migration features. 1-Click Migrate and MigrationPro Ultimate are the more powerful pair; PS Migrator is designed to be simpler and easier to use. 1-Click Migrate focuses on a simple, clean interface with minimal configuration and a good balance of features, performance and price — our team recommended it to customers migrating a clone to a clean new installation (e.g. 1.7.10 → 9.0.2). MigrationPro Ultimate adds advanced database mapping technology and is the team's recommendation for large or complex stores. 1-Click Direct Upgrade works differently: instead of transferring data to a fresh installation, it upgrades your existing store in place, and it includes a dedicated upgrade service by our team.

Q: Which module should I choose for a large store with many products, customers and CMS pages?

A: For a very large catalog (many products, customers and communication pages such as delivery/returns, about us, payments), our team has recommended MigrationPro Ultimate for its advanced database mapping, which makes the transfer faster and more accurate. 1-Click Migrate is the simpler, well-balanced option and covers the standard 1.7 → 9.1 migration scenario including CMS pages, preserving IDs and SEO. If you are unsure, describe your store size to our team and we will advise which module fits.

Q: I don't want a fresh installation. Can I upgrade my existing store in place instead of migrating data?

A: 1-Click Migrate transfers data to a separate PrestaShop installation; it does not upgrade your existing store in place. For an in-place upgrade, we recommend 1-Click Direct Upgrade, which includes a free, one-time upgrade service performed by our team for one domain per license.

Group 2: Version compatibility & server requirements

Q: Which PrestaShop versions can I migrate from and to with 1-Click Migrate?

A: 1-Click Migrate transfers data between PrestaShop versions from 1.5.x up to 9.x. The listing describes it as: "Migrate data from PrestaShop 8, 1.7, 1.6, 1.5, to PrestaShop 9 and upgrade your store via safe, fast data transfer."

Q: Can I migrate directly from PrestaShop 1.6 to PrestaShop 9, or from 1.7 to 9?

A: Yes. Direct migration from 1.6 (or 1.7, or 8) to 9 is a standard use case — customers have migrated 1.6.0.8 → 9.1, 1.6 → 9.1.4, 1.7.10 → 9.0.2 and 1.7 → 9 with this module. You do not need any intermediate upgrade steps: you install the module on a fresh target installation of the destination version and transfer the data.

Q: My store has a large catalog (750+ products, many attributes and combinations with per-combination prices). Will the migration handle it correctly?

A: Our team told a customer with 750+ products and 100+ attributes that the module is designed to handle large catalogs, provided the server meets PrestaShop's minimum requirements and has enough resources (memory and execution time). The module migrates products with multiple combinations, attributes, per-combination prices and weight impacts, without duplicating or losing relationships. As good practice, always test the migration in a staging environment and take a full backup before the final run.

Q: Are product and combination references (SKU references) preserved?

A: Yes. The module preserves product and combination references (SKUs), along with their attributes and related data. You can also choose to keep original record IDs or generate new ones using the available migration modes.

Q: My hosting allows only one PHP version for the whole hosting. Does that block migration?

A: Not necessarily. The source and target stores can use different PHP versions, but each must run on a compatible PHP environment. If your hosting only supports one PHP version and it isn't compatible with both stores, you may need separate hosting for the migration.

Q: Does the module change anything on my live (source) store?

A: No. Migration only reads from the source through the free PrestaShop Connector; the source store keeps running unchanged, so you can migrate while the old shop stays live and keeps selling.

Group 3: How the migration works

Q: How does 1-Click Migrate work? What do I install, and where?

A: Three steps: (1) install the free "PrestaShop Connector" module on the source (old) site — it generates an access token that securely connects the two sites; (2) install 1-Click Migrate on the target site (your fresh PrestaShop installation of the new version); (3) paste the source store URL and the access token into the module, choose the data groups and a migration mode, then start. You can select exactly which data to migrate (products, manufacturers, customers, orders and more), and you can pause and resume the migration without losing progress.

Q: Does my store data get sent to PrestaHero's servers during migration?

A: No. Migration data is transferred directly between your source and target stores through the PrestaShop Connector using an access token. It is not routed through PrestaHero's servers, and the migration process does not alter your source store's existing business data.

Q: Can the source and target be on the same domain and the same server (e.g. the new store in a subfolder)?

A: Yes. Our team confirmed migration works when the source and target share the same domain and server (target in a subfolder), provided the Connector can reach the target — the target's URL/IP must be reachable and must not block the migration requests (e.g. no IP-based access restriction that blocks the connection).

Q: Can I migrate while my old store keeps selling, then sync only the new data before go-live?

A: Yes — this is the recommended workflow and customers do it in practice (one customer re-ran the migration regularly to pick up the difference from the source store while building the new site). Run a full migration first and keep the old store live; prepare and test the new site; shortly before switching, run a final incremental migration selecting only the data groups that changed (customers, orders, carts). Data groups you don't select stay untouched.

Q: What are the 5 migration modes?

A: Mode 1: clear target data and migrate all records, keeping original IDs. Mode 2: clear target data and migrate all records with new IDs. Mode 3: keep target data, migrate only new records (skip duplicate IDs). Mode 4: keep target data, migrate new records and update records with duplicate IDs. Mode 5: keep target data, migrate all records with new IDs (append). Our team recommends modes 1, 2 or 5 for the first migration and modes 3 or 4 for later runs where you only want to import new or changed data.

Q: What happens if a migration fails halfway? Can I safely restart?

A: Yes. With Mode 1 the module clears the target data first and re-imports everything fresh, so restarting does not create duplicates or a messy database. Keeping original IDs also protects against duplicates when re-running a migration — one customer confirmed that keeping the IDs made the whole migration work properly without duplicates.

Group 4: What data gets migrated

Q: What data does 1-Click Migrate transfer?

A: Products and categories (including combinations, attributes, prices, images and SEO data), manufacturers, customers and addresses, orders and order data, CMS pages and categories, plus other store entities. Our team confirmed full migration of products, customers, orders and CMS pages such as delivery/returns, about-us and payment-info pages, preserving IDs and SEO structure.

Q: Can I migrate only customers, addresses and passwords — without orders or other data?

A: Yes. You select exactly which data groups to migrate, so you can transfer only customers and addresses (with passwords, via the Password Keeper module) and skip orders, invoices and everything else — customers then keep their accounts on the new store without registering again.

Q: Are customer passwords migrated? Will customers keep their old logins?

A: Yes, with the free companion module "PrestaShop Password Keeper" installed on the target site — customers can then log in on the new store with their old accounts and passwords. If the Password Keeper module is not installed on the target, passwords cannot be kept and customers will need to reset their passwords to access their accounts.

Q: Are the original product, customer and order IDs preserved?

A: Yes — Migration Mode 1 ("clear target data and migrate all records, preserving source IDs") keeps the original IDs, so all relationships between customers, products and orders remain correct, and re-running the migration does not create duplicates.

Q: Are product and category images migrated?

A: Yes. The module supports automatic migration of product and category images. For very large catalogs or hosting limitations, you can also transfer images manually if needed.

Q: Are friendly URLs preserved after migration (for SEO)?

A: Yes. Our team confirmed the module migrates the friendly URLs of products and categories, keeping the existing SEO structure. As good practice, check the URL settings on the new store and regenerate the .htaccess file after the migration.

Q: Does the module migrate my theme and installed modules?

A: No. Themes and modules are not migrated — install them yourself on the new site and verify they are compatible with the target PrestaShop version. Third-party modules that change the source store's appearance (e.g. a page-builder module incompatible with the new version) are outside the module's scope.

Q: Does the module support multishop (multi-store) sources?

A: Yes. 1-Click Migrate supports PrestaShop Multistore, including shop groups, individual shops, and their associated data. You can map source shops to existing or new target shops. Some migration options may be restricted to protect shared multistore data.

Group 5: License, pricing & policies

Q: How much does 1-Click Migrate cost?

A: 1-Click Migrate costs €119.99 on PrestaHero.com, excluding applicable taxes. Please check the product page for the latest price and promotions.

Q: How does the license work — do I need one license per shop? What about my test/staging domain?

A: One license covers one live website and one development/test website. You can use a staging site to prepare your migration. If you need to change your registered production domain, our support team can assist you. Separate live websites require additional licenses.

Q: I bought the module on the Addons marketplace and need to change the domain linked to my license. What do I do?

A: For purchases made on the PrestaShop Addons marketplace, license/account matters (domain change, license reassignment, refunds, invoices) are handled exclusively by the PrestaShop Addons team — our team cannot edit them on your behalf. You must submit the request yourself through the official Addons Help Center while logged into your Addons account so they can verify ownership. Meanwhile, our team can send you the module files directly so your work is not blocked, and we keep providing technical support for the module itself.

Q: Are there discounts or promo codes available?

A: Yes, PrestaHero offers seasonal promotions and occasional special discounts. Check our website or contact our support team to find out whether a discount is currently available.

Q: Can I get a refund or swap the module if it does not fit my project?

A: Our priority is to help you get the most out of our module. If you encounter technical issues, our support team will investigate and help resolve them, including checking directly on your website when necessary.

If the issue is caused by our module and our developers cannot fix it after troubleshooting, you are eligible for a refund within 15 days of purchase, in accordance with our refund policy.

As our products are downloadable digital software, refunds for a change of mind or features outside the module's advertised scope are not covered. However, we're happy to discuss alternative solutions, such as exchanging the module or offering store credit, depending on your situation.

Q: Can I buy the module during a sale and install it later?

A: Yes. Our team regularly tells customers they can purchase during a promotion to get the best price and install it later when it is more convenient.

Q: Will your team perform the migration for me?

A: No — you (or your technician) install, configure and supervise the migration; our free support assists with installation, configuration and bug fixes along the way. Only 1-Click Direct Upgrade includes a dedicated upgrade service performed by our team.

Group 6: Troubleshooting (post-purchase)

Q: I get a "Source Store Is Not Online!" error when importing. What should I check?

A: First verify three things: (1) the free PrestaShop Connector module is installed and enabled on the source store; (2) the source store URL and the access token entered in the migration module are correct; (3) the source site is reachable (not blocking the connection). If everything is correct but the error persists, contact our support with screenshots — the team will check whether a module conflict on the target is involved.

Q: Products migrate but their stock quantities are always 0. What should I check?

A: Make sure the stock data option is selected in the data groups during configuration, and check that no third-party stock-management module on either site interferes. If the problem persists, send our team a screenshot or short video of the import process and result so we can investigate.

Q: After updating the module, I can no longer launch the migration — the module page shows fully/blank. What should I do?

A: First clear your browser cache. If the problem persists, a hook used by the module may be missing after the update — our team fixed such a case by restoring the missing hook. Send us screenshots and your back-office access so we can check and fix it for you.

Q: Some product data (descriptions, titles, quantities) was not transferred. What should I check?

A: 1-Click Migrate supports migration between PrestaShop 1.5.x and 9.x. Make sure all relevant data groups were selected in the migration configuration. Note that corrupted content or custom settings on the source store can affect the data transfer — contact our support so we can verify the configuration with you.

Q: The migration never finishes / gets stuck on large stores. What can I do?

A: For large stores, migration speed and server resources matter: check PHP/server limits (memory, max execution time) and make sure the server meets PrestaShop's requirements. If a run stalls, our team recommends testing on a staging site first and, if needed, migrating without images first and copying the images to the target manually afterwards.

Q: Can I try 1-Click to Migrate before buying?

A: As 1-Click to Migrate is a downloadable digital product, we do not offer a free trial. However, you can explore our Front Office and Back Office demos, which showcase the module's features, migration settings and data mapping options, and configuration options, helping you evaluate whether it meets your needs before purchasing.

If you have any questions about compatibility or specific features, our support team is happy to assist. After purchase, we'll also help with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting to ensure a smooth experience.
