What Happens to Customer Accounts and Order History If the Module Is Disabled or Uninstalled?

Social login makes it easier for customers to create accounts and complete purchases, improving user experience and increasing conversion rates. But what happens if the Social Login module is disabled or uninstalled?

Many store owners worry that customers may lose access to their accounts or that order history may be deleted. Don’t worry! Customer accounts and orders will remain intact.

What happens to customer accounts?

When a customer logs in using a social network (e.g., Facebook, Google), the Social Login module creates a PrestaShop account for them using:

  • Their email address (as the username)
  • A randomly generated password

If you disable or uninstall the Social Login module, customers will not lose their accounts. Instead, they can access their account using the email they used for social login and a password reset.

How can customers log in after module removal?

If the module is removed, customers won’t see the social login buttons anymore, but they can:

  • Go to the login page
  • Click “Forget your password?” link
  • Enter the same email address they used for social login
  • Reset their password and log in normally

This means that even if the Social Login module is uninstalled, customers can still access their accounts and order history using their email and a new password.

What happens to order history?

Good news! Customer order history remains unchanged.

Since customer accounts are stored in PrestaShop’s default database, all orders, account details, and purchase history are preserved. Disabling or uninstalling the module will not affect customer orders in any way.

If you ever decide to re-enable the module, social login functionality will return, and customers can log in with their social accounts again as usual.
