How to Use Auto-Configuration in Super Speed
The Auto-Configuration feature in Super Speed helps you quickly apply multiple performance settings from one place instead of configuring each feature individually.
It is especially useful when setting up Super Speed for the first time and you want a recommended starting configuration. After running it, you should still check your storefront and fine-tune individual features if your store requires different settings.
What Does Auto-Configuration Do?
Auto-Configuration lets you enable several optimization features together, including:
- Page Cache;
- Smarty cache;
- Server cache;
- Minify HTML;
- Minify JavaScript;
- Minify CSS;
- Browser cache and GZIP;
- Production mode
When Page Cache is selected and no page types have been configured yet, Super Speed also prepares a default list of common pages to cache, such as the homepage, product pages, category pages, CMS pages, and other catalog-related pages.
Auto-Configuration therefore provides a useful baseline configuration. You can adjust these settings individually later when necessary.
Before You Start
In most cases, no additional configuration is required before running Auto-Configuration.
One exception is image optimization. If you plan to optimize existing images using TinyPNG, make sure you have configured a valid TinyPNG API key first.
For stores with a large number of images, bulk image optimization may take longer than the other configuration changes. You can leave this option unchecked and optimize your existing images separately later if preferred.
How to Run Auto-Configuration
Step 1: Navigate to the Super Speed module's dashboard within your PrestaShop admin panel.
Step 2: Scroll down and click on the “Auto configuration” button.
Step 3: In the “Auto configuration” popup, enable all available options except “Production mode”. These options include Smarty cache, server cache, HTML/JavaScript/CSS minification, Page Cache, browser cache, Lazy Load, and image optimization.
Step 4: Click on the "Run auto configuration" button. This action will trigger the automatic configuration process, activating the selected optimization settings.
Check Your Store After Auto-Configuration
After Auto-Configuration finishes, open your storefront in a private or incognito browser window to avoid existing browser cache or login sessions affecting the test, then check several important pages, for example:
- homepage;
- category page;
- product page;
- cart;
- checkout.
Make sure that the pages load correctly and that important elements such as menus, sliders, product combinations, prices, cart information, and other dynamic content still behave as expected.
If you enabled Page Cache, it is also useful to verify that cached pages are actually being served. The What Is a Cache HIT? How to Check If Page Cache Is Working on PrestaShop guide explains how to perform this check.
When Do You Need Manual Configuration?
You do not need to manually change settings just because Auto-Configuration has finished. Fine-tune the configuration only when your store requires it.
For example:
- adjust Page Cache if certain pages or dynamic modules need different cache behavior;
- adjust cache lifetime if some content changes more frequently than others;
- review minification if a theme or JavaScript feature stops working correctly;
- configure image optimization separately if you want different compression quality or optimization methods;
- review Lazy Load if specific images should load immediately instead of being deferred.
For more detailed control, use the dedicated Page Cache, Image Optimization, Browser Cache, or Server Cache and Minification guides rather than trying to handle every setting through Auto-Configuration.
Auto-Configuration gives you a quick, practical starting point: run the recommended setup, check the storefront, and manually adjust only the areas that need different behavior.
