Why Instagram Login Is No Longer Supported in Social Login

Using social login helps customers create accounts quickly and easily, improving user experience and increasing conversion rates. However, Instagram Login is no longer available, and our module no longer supports login via Instagram accounts.

In this article, we’ll explain why this change happened and what alternative login options are available.

Why doesn’t our module support Instagram Login anymore?

In the past, users could log in to websites using their Instagram accounts. However, Meta (formerly Facebook), which owns Instagram, removed the Instagram Login API and no longer supports authentication for standard Instagram users.

The main reasons are:

Meta discontinued the Instagram Login API

  • Meta officially removed Instagram Login API, meaning third-party apps can no longer authenticate users with their Instagram accounts.
  • Only Facebook Login API is available for authentication.

Instagram accounts are now linked to Facebook

  • Since Meta acquired Instagram, Instagram accounts have become increasingly integrated with Facebook accounts.
  • To log in via social networks, users must use Facebook Login instead.

Instagram API does not support authentication

  • Although Instagram API allows access to Instagram profile data, it does not support authentication.
  • This means users cannot log in to websites using their Instagram credentials.

What Instagram APIs are available in 2025?

Currently, Instagram APIs no longer support user authentication. However, the following Instagram-related APIs are available for business and media management:

Instagram API with Instagram Login

  • Allows apps to access data from Instagram Business and Creator Accounts.
  • Enables messaging, media management, comments, and mentions.
  • Does NOT support user authentication.

Instagram API with Facebook Login

  • Works only for Instagram Business and Creator Accounts linked to a Facebook Page.
  • Allows businesses to manage media, comments, mentions, hashtags, and insights.
  • Requires Facebook authentication.

Instagram Messaging API via Messenger API

  • Allows businesses to manage Instagram and Facebook Page messages in one place.
  • Requires an Instagram Business or Creator Account linked to a Facebook Page.

Since Instagram no longer provides a user authentication API, our module does not support Instagram Login. If your customers want to log in with a social network, we recommend Facebook Login as the alternative.
